Disney
Walt Disney has created something amazing for adults and children alike. Most adults can say that they have seen at least one Disney movie, and many have seen plenty of them. Every year, millions of families visit the Disney theme parks, also created by Walt Disney. You may think that you know everything there is to know about the Disney empire, but these rarely seen Disney Photographs have left people with some serious questions.
Disney Photograph: A Dog Lover
Given the number of cuddly animals that Disney Studios have brought to the screen over the years, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Walt Disney loved animals, particularly dogs. Throughout his life, he took in many breeds, including chow chows and poodles.
Disney and His Composers
Walt Disney believed that there was great power in music, which is why music is a prominent part of all his productions. This is a photo of Walt Disney, with Leigh Harline and Ned Washington. They are the composers behind Pinocchio’s When You Wish Upon a Star.
Mickey Mouse Received Fan Mail
Even though Mickey Mouse is a cartoon character, he received fan mail. Ever since 1928, when his first film, Steamboat Willie debuted, people fell in love with him. This is a photo of the fan mail that he received in just one day. In the late ’70s, he was the first cartoon character to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame.
Walt Disney Studios
Between 1926 and 1940, Disney Studios was located at 2719 Hyperion Avenue in Los Angeles. It was at this location that Mickey Mouse was born. It is also where Snow White, the very first full-length animated feature film, was created in 1937. Today, the Walt Disney Company uses the name Hyperion for a number of enterprises as a nod to the formative years.
Cliff Edwards Records For Dumbo
This is a photo of Cliff Edwards providing the voice for Timothy Mouse for the 1941 film, Dumbo. His character had no actual words in the movie, making him the quietest Disney character in history. Sleeping Beauty’s, Aurora, came in a close second. She had just 18 lines in her own, self-titled movie.
Mickey Mouse’s Original Name
Mickey Mouse didn’t always have that name. Initially, his name was Mortimer Mouse. His wife convinced him that Mickey Mouse sounded better, and the rest is history. Walt didn’t scrap the name Mortimer altogether. He used it for two characters. One is Minnie’s aunt, and the other is Mickey’s rival.
Walt With Mickey and Minnie
Walt Disney began honing his drawing skills at just 4-years-old. Mickey Mouse was his first successful character. Disney and Ub Iwerks created Minnie in 1928. Walt came up with the idea to make the pair mice, even though he is rumored to be terrified by rodents.
Disneyland Sketches
This is a photo of Walt Disney going over the sketches that he created for Disneyland in Anaheim, California, in 1955. He wanted to be part of the project from start to finish, and even built himself an apartment on Main Street. While living there, he would switch on a lamp to signal that he was home. Today, this light continues to shine as a tribute to Walt Disney.
An Early Disney Parade
This is a photo of a Disney parade on Main Street back in 1972. During the parade, cast park member drove retro cars down the street, while iconic characters walked nearby.
Disneyland’s Opening Day
Disneyland opened to the public in July 1955. There wasn’t as much to do back then, but families still had plenty to do. These children seem to be having a great time being locked up in the Wild Animal cage.
Ariel and Belle Were Based On a Real Model
Ariel and Belle had perfect figures, and what most people don’t know is that model Sherri Stoner inspired them. Some of their habits were also taken from Sherri. Like Sherri, Ariel bit her lip, and Belle flicks her hair off her face. When Sherri isn’t modeling, she works in animation, writing, and she is the producer of Caspar the Friendly Ghost and Animaniacs.
A Horrible Accident
After the success of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in 1937, Walt Disney bought a house in North Hollywood for his parents, Elias and Flora. Shortly after the couple moved in, Flora told Walt that she was having trouble with her gas furnace. He sent some repairmen from the studio to fix the furnace, but it wasn’t done correctly. Flora died from carbon monoxide poisoning, and Walt never forgave himself.
Suggestions For Disneyland
Before Disneyland opened up in 955, theme parks had shady reputations. Disney wanted to change all this. He wanted to create a place where families could have fun together. Kids were sending him letters all the time, wanting to meet Mickey Mouse and wanting to ride the miniature railway that Walt had in his backyard. He took the letters seriously and incorporated both into the theme park.
Donald Duck And Others
Walt Disney provided the original voice for Mickey Mouse. Clarence Nash provided the voice for Donald Duck, which led to other roles. He was responsible for the barking dogs in 101 Dalmatians, among many others. In 1993, eight years after his death, he was named a Disney Legend.
