Which historical or religious figure would you most like to see the face of? The historicity of Jesus has been debated for years, but there is strong evidence supporting it. Even the majority of non-Christians don’t subscribe to the belief that He was only a mythological figure. They believe He was a man who existed thousands of years ago.

The traditional image of Him with light skin and long hair is inherently flawed. It’s not an accurate depiction of a Middle-Eastern man who lived where the Bible says He did. The Holy Book doesn’t provide many clues as to what Jesus actually looked like. In fact, it does the opposite, saying He lacked distinguishing physical features and easily blended into any crowd.
Forensic anthropologists are attempting to find an answer. Their skills are often used to identify vict, but they can also help create approximations of the faces of historical figures. The process began with physical evidence. What did the skulls of men his age in Jerusalem and the surrounding area look like? The controversial Shroud of Turin also provided a clue. It’s believed to be Jesus’ burial cloth. An image of His face was supposedly forever put into it all those years ago. The forensic anthropologists used it as a comparison point to guide their research.
They also used the limited clues the Bible provided about Jesus’ physical appearance. It hinted at characteristics such as short hair. Combining all of that evidence allowed them to create a digital recreation of His face. They also made a mold out of clay. There’s always room for error, but it’s considered one of the most accurate ever created.
