She reprised her role in the film adaptation in 1962, winning an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress, making her the youngest person to receive the award at that time.

Throughout her career, Duke continued to demonstrate her versatility, starring in numerous films and television shows. She gained widespread recognition for her dual role as an identical cousin in the popular sitcom “The Patty Duke Show,” which aired from 1963 to 1966. The show showcased her comedic talents and solidified her status as a beloved actress. Beyond her achievements in the entertainment industry, Duke was a vocal advocate for mental health awareness. In the 1980s, she spoke openly about her struggles with bipolar disorder, becoming an influential figure in the fight against stigma surrounding mental health issues.
