RFK was gaining significant public support during a time of great national turmoil. After winning the Democratic primary, he returned to a hotel to celebrate, but the event turned tragic when at least 13 shots were fired, resulting in RFK being the sole fatality.
Sirhan Sirhan became the primary suspect, admitting to the crime but claiming he couldn’t remember it. For years, this was the accepted narrative, but an alternative theory, known as the Second Gunman Hypothesis, has emerged. This theory suggests that while Sirhan may have shot bystanders, he didn’t deliver the fatal shot that killed RFK, which was purportedly fired by another gunman who was never identified.
RFK Jr. supports this hypothesis, citing an autopsy report indicating RFK was shot from behind, while Sirhan was in front of him. He aims to raise awareness of this theory, though he’s unsure whether it will change public perception.
