One of the most visibly significant signs that a star has made their mark on the entertainment industry is for them to honored with a star on the prestigious Hollywood Walk of Fame. Over 2,400 celebs have awarded with these pentacle-shaped plaques for their achievements in film, television, music, and several other categories.
While going for a stroll along the Walk of Fame, you’ll find the names of legends such as Lucille Ball, Arethra Franklin, and Cyndi Lauper. It’s shocking to discover that some other major icons of the stage and screen; like Clint Eastwood, Al Pacino, and Bruce Springsteen aren’t part of it. So what gives? Why do some stars recognized with this honor while others seem to get the shaft?
Some of these noticeably absent stars simply haven’t yet nominated for a star, while others have actually turned the honor down. Join Facts Verse as we take a look at some of the most surprising stars whose names can’t found on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Clint Eastwood
One of the most glaringly obvious omissions from the Hollywood Walk of Fame is this esteemed actor, director, and former politician. According to the LA Times, celebrities must nominated for a star; hand selected for one by a committee, and also agree to the honor for them to actually receive one. And apparently, Eastwood hasn’t checked all three of those boxes.
Part of the process of receiving a star also requires an individual to shell out $40,000 in addition to passing a rigorous exam of their career, awards history, and charitable contributions to make sure that they are a good candidate.
If they manage to cover all of these bases. They also have to sign a guarantee promising that they will attend the ceremony to receive the award. While, we aren’t a 100% certain why Clint Eastwood hasn’t received his star yet. It’s likely that he doesn’t want to have to bother with jumping through all of those hoops. It’s that sort of bureaucratic hubbub that Eastwood notoriously despises after all.
Prince
Purple Rain singer, Prince, in fact has offered a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame before. In 2016, not long after his death, Ana Martinez, one of the producers for the Walk of Fame’s award ceremonies; told the gossip outlet The Wrap that Prince had approached on two occasions about the honor but politely declined each time. The reason he gave was that it simply didn’t feel like the right time. Incidentally, Prince converted to the Jehovah’s Witness faith later on in his life. Members of that religious group encourage to not seek out ‘worldly’ titles and accolades.
Carrie Fisher
She played Princess Leia in the original Star Wars trilogy and reprised that role for the recent sequel trilogy. But at the moment she has yet honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for her iconic contribution to the world of science fiction cinema. That said, the late star is going to posthumously given a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Fisher died in 2016, and since then there has been growing support among her fans and colleagues for her to receive the honor. Mark Hamill, her Star Wars co-star, seems as the one to thank for her finally presented with this honor as he personally petitioned the committee on her behalf.
Al Pacino
This Scarface actor might not have a star on the Walk of Fame, but that’s his choice. Even though he has nominated twice for a star; Al Pacino has never provided a date for the ceremony and thus has never committed to receiving the award.
Bruce Springsteen
He may be one of the most prolific musicians of the 20th and 21st centuries. But the fact that Springsteen doesn’t have a star yet on the Hollywood Walk of Fame seems to be his own doing. A few years ago, the committee did offer him one. But like Al Pacino, he too failed to set a date for his public ceremony; which meant that he ultimately forfeited his spot.
Jim Carrey
It’s not entirely clear why Jim doesn’t have a star as of yet on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. But that might have something to do with the fact that Tinseltown doesn’t feel very comfortable casting him anymore in major motion pictures. Sure, he played Doctor Robotnik in the Sonic the Hedgehog film and expected to reprise that role for the upcoming sequel. But you’ve got to admit that Carrey isn’t nearly as ubiquitous in the film industry as he used to be.
According to Looper, one of the big problems with Carrey is that it’s difficult to tell whether audiences still want to see him. His brand of over-the-top humor can be successful in some roles while falling flat in others.
According to the website The Top Tens, Carrey Ranks as the 47th worst actor of all time. He’s a polarizing force. Some people love the guy and think that he’s hilarious, while others can’t stand him. This kind of unpredictability makes him a bit too risky for producers to feel safe casting him.
But even though he may not have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame; the Ace Ventura comic does have a star on Canada’s Walk of Fame – so that’s something.

Robert Redford
While undoubtedly a legend, Robert Redford’s name won’t added to the Hollywood Walk of Fame anytime soon. Redford has been in show business for decades. He got his start in the industry in the early 60s appearing on various television shows before transitioning into films. His best-known movie credits include roles in The Way We Were, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, and Barefoot in The Park.
As of 2022, he’s still very much so active as a producer, director, and actor. So, why on earth hasn’t this man given a star yet? While he hasn’t explicitly spelled it out; there’s speculation that much like Clint Eastwood. Redford simply doesn’t want to have to deal with all the hassle that goes along with receiving the honor. After all, the man is still super busy with his work life. And at the age of 85, there is only so much that he can reasonably expected to keep track of. In 2022 alone, he’s two projects slated for release; a documentary entitled Desert of the Real, and the other as a TV series called Dark Winds.
Richard Gere
In the film, Pretty Woman, Vivian Ward, played by Julia Roberts, is seen soliciting potential Johns on the Walk of Fame. While the film turned her and her co-star Richard Gere into a star, neither celebs names can found on the world-famous sidewalk. While Julia Roberts is expecting to induct into the elite club soon. Gere has yet to nominated for the honor but is reportedly open to the possibility.
Christopher Walken
The Deer Hunter actor is deep into his 70s and still doesn’t have his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. While we have no idea why the committee hasn’t extended the honor in his direction yet. There is an entire Facebook group devoted to getting Walken the award that his fans believe he rightfully deserves.
George Lucas
Even though he’s the person responsible for introducing the world to the Star Wars franchise; Lucas’s name too is missing from the walk of fame. Some of his colleagues such as Quentin Tarantino, Martin Scorsese, and Steven Spielberg, already have theirs. But maybe the committee simply not thrilled about what Lucas done with Star Wars in the years; since it’s first round of films hit theaters in the late-70s and early 80s. To be fair, Jar Jar Binks was pretty awful.
George Clooney
If you’re curious why this Ocean’s Eleven and Confessions of a Dangerous Mind star not receiving his star on the Hollywood walk of fame yet, you should at least know that he’s offered one. At the moment, however, he has put off scheduling the public ceremony. Maybe after his upcoming film Ticket to Paradise hits theaters in October, he’ll find the time to book a flight out to Italy where the event is held.
Warren Beatty
He’s nominated for 15 academy awards and won one of those for directing 1981s Reds. In fact, he’s the only person ever to have nominated for directing, writing, producing, and acting in the same film. Not only that, but he’s actually pulled off that hat trick twice now – first for 1978s Heaven Can Wait and then again for Reds.
Beatty has also nominated for 18 Golden Globes, winning six of those, including the prestigious Cecil B. DeMille Award in 2007.
His career spans over 60 years now at this point, and at 84, it’s not like he will be around too much longer. So, why haven’t we just gone ahead and handed this guy his star yet? If anyone deserves one, it’s Beatty. Unfortunately, once again, we don’t have a solid answer to this question, but does he even really need a star on the Boulevard to remind people that he’s a living legend? Hardly. Even if he doesn’t get his while he’s still with us, you can almost guarantee that he’ll receive one eventually – even if that happens to be posthumous.
At the end of the day, having a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame is just formality. A mere token of appreciation for a celebrities many years of contributions to the entertainment industry. None of these people that we just discussed really need a star on the boulevard for us to know how great they are. The fact that we know their names and accomplishments speaks volumes.
Maybe Clint Eastwood is right. Perhaps it is too much of hassle to jump through all of those hoops just to get your name etched on a piece of metal. But then again, people obsessed with the famed Walk and regularly include a visit there on their vacations to Hollywood. So, if anything, agreeing to going through all the rigmarole required to get a star could seen as doing a service to one’s fans.
