Her First Record
Dolly began writing and recording her first record titled “Puppy Love” when she was just 12 years old. Being from a small town, Dolly had no one who was available to drive her to the recording studio all the way in Louisiana. She and her Grandmother got tickets for a bus ride to Louisiana but after they got off at the first stop they were lost. Dolly’s Grandmother had never left their hometown in Tennessee and Dolly herself was just a young girl, so when they got turned around they found it extremely difficult to ask for help. Eventually, Dolly spoke to the clerk at the station and he pointed them in the right direction. They were told they had to wait overnight in order to catch the next bus that was going where they needed. Dolly vividly remembers comforting her crying Grandmother in the bus station overnight.
