One of the luckiest things you can get is becoming part of a major franchise. The white whale, of course, is Marvel. Tom Holland’s youthful energy was perfect for Spider-Man. There are also other major series for actors to set their sites on. Emilia Clarke helped make Game of Thrones a major hit as Danayres Targarean. You can even end up starring in what was, for many years, the highest-grossing film of all time. Kate Winslet had the honor when she earned the role of Rose in Titanic.
Even a small audition can turn out to be a major stroke of luck. When Chris Pratt read for a part on Parts and Recreation, he was so good they made him a mainstay. He even became one of the most frequently used men in Hollywood.
Some successful auditions are especially difficult. Benedict Cumberbatch had the added challenge of auditioning for a character that would be portrayed in CGI. His voice and movements were right for the intimidating dragon Smaug in the Hobbit series. Child actors also have an extra challenge. Miley Cyrus was perfect for the part of Hannah Montana but struggled for years to escape the image it gave her. Henry Thomas had a unique ability to pull out emotion. It helped make ET a classic.
