Barry and Linda are known for their long-lasting union, which has spanned over a golden jubilee. The couple is parents to five children and seven grandchildren. However, the earliest deciding moments of the couple’s lives are known to have some surprising details. Join FactsVerse as we travel through time to discover the details of how Linda Gray and Barry Gibb got intimate in a strange location.
The 74-year-old icon of the Bee Gees stated that he had met the then-beauty queen Linda during the band’s appearance on Top of the Pops and that the night had concluded with the two of them getting cosy with the Daleks in the most bizarre spot imaginable.
In 1967, the Bee Gees were invited to give a performance at the Top Of The Tops. Not only did they do what they did best, but their lead singer, Barry, met his future wife, Linda. The week that Massachusetts was ranked first on the charts, Barry says Linda was the hostess, and to his surprise, she had never heard of the song before. After meeting during the Bee Gees’ Top Of The Pops performance in 1967, Barry and Linda hit it off right away.
After his band’s performance, Barry and his date decided to run away to a nearby studio afterwards. They wound up on the set of a BBC science fiction show.
He claimed that after evading studio security, the lovers ended up in a TARDIS on the set of Doctor Who, where the two engaged in a steamy romance.
And for those not familiar with British sci-fi, the Doctor’s means of interstellar travel is a TARDIS, an acronym for “Time And Relative Dimension In Space.”
Due to a technical flaw, it is permanently locked in the shape of a 1950s police box, which has become a defining feature of the science fiction series since its inception in 1963.
Their passionate first meeting set the stage for a committed relationship three years later. In 1970, Barry wed Linda, and since then, they’ve started a wonderful family of their own.
Barry and Linda, who just two years ago celebrated 50 years of marriage, are parents to five children: sons Stephen (47), Ashley (43), Travis (39) and Michael (36), and daughter Alexandra (29).
As a member of the Bee Gees, Barry wrote some of the most iconic songs of all time, including the score for the groundbreaking film starring John Travolta, Saturday Night Fever.
Up until the passing of Barry’s brothers, Robin from cancer in 2012 and Maurice from a heart attack in 2003, the band continued to release songs for nearly 40 years.
In 2017, Barry made his return to the studio, and his most recent solo effort, Greenfields: The Gibb Brothers Songbook, Vol. 1, features covers of songs originally recorded by the Bee Gees by various country music artists.
Barry said that he was pleased he never experienced Michael Jackson’s degree of a celebrity since taking care of his family kept him grounded, despite the fact that they were friends.
While the Bee Gees, and Barry Gibb in particular, may have been viewed as sex icons at various periods in their careers, this 1983 film reveals that the musicians are actually just regular guys who love their families.
After inviting their spouses and children to join them onstage, Barry Gibb, Robin Gibb, and Maurice Gibb sang a heartfelt rendition of “Silent Night” on LWT’s special Cilla Black’s Christmas.
The Bee Gees’ wives, Linda, Dwina, and Yvonne, joining them onstage is a one-of-a-kind occurrence in and of itself, but the fact that the group wasn’t making music as a unit in 1983 makes it even more remarkable.
In terms of the personal lives of the Bee Gees, its lead vocalist Barry had already been married to Maureen Bates, whom he wed in 1966 when he was just 19 years old. However, the pair divorced in 1970, and Barry soon after wed Linda Gray, who had just been crowned Miss Edinburgh at the age of 17. Barry and Linda split their time between Miami and England with their five children and seven grandchildren.
Throughout Barry’s whole career, having his wife by his side has made all the difference in the world. The couple has been married for fifty years, which is practically unheard of in the music industry. Together, they have experienced all that a rising pop group could possibly go through, while his wife has always been by his side.
Since the two came together, Gibb claims that Linda hasn’t missed a single important event in his life, and that fact gives him great solace.
In an interview, Gibb referred to Linda as a “tower of strength,” stating that she is always there for him and ready to give him a pat on the back or a swift kick to the rear if he misbehaves.

Barry gives his wife credit for much of his achievements and expresses gratitude for keeping him from following the other Gibbs down the same road. Andy Gibb was only 30 years old when he died of cancer as a result of a heroin overdose, and Maurice had problems with alcoholism.
He told The Guardian in 2020 that his brothers had to face their demons on their own, but he was married to a woman who would not put up with his bad behaviour. He recounted the story of the moment he decided to stop buying drugs after having to flush them all down the loo each time he brought them home in order not to upset his wife.
Since Linda has been so adamant about keeping Barry from following in the footsteps of his brothers, Barry considers himself very fortunate to have married her. Her assistance allowed them to serve as admirable role models for his younger brothers.
Barry has also discussed how he and his wife have been faithful during their fifty-year marriage, despite several opportunities for both of them to cheat. It certainly wouldn’t have come as a surprise if Barry had more marriages than he does, given that he was a sex icon in his day. Although Barry’s success and affluence may have made it tempting to cheat on his wife, he never did.
In contrast, Linda was likewise stunningly beautiful, and her attractiveness never faded despite her marriage to Barry. In a 2016 interview with The New York Post, Barry even recalled a time when Steve McQueen attempted to steal Linda away from him. He continued by saying she is stunningly attractive and had as many opportunities to dishonour their marriage but chose to be faithful.
While Barry and Linda’s 50 years of marriage is exceptional, the other Gibb brothers also had relatively short marriages before settling down with their respective partners for the rest of their lives.
In October 1975, Maurice wed Yvonne Spenceley Gibb, his second wife, after a four-year, precarious marriage to singer Lulu.
They were together for the remainder of Maurice’s life, and they had two children together: Adam (born in 1976) and Samantha (born in 1980).
Before his death, however, in 1991, Maurice’s alcoholism reached a breaking point when, following a month-long binge, he pulled a revolver on his wife and children.
They ditched him and went to visit Barry, where they vowed not to come back until he was completely sober. After getting sober at a rehabilitation centre, Maurice was able to rejoin his family.
In 1992, with the support of their families and many of the new friends Maurice had made in treatment, he and Yvonne repeated their wedding vows. From the time he stopped drinking until his death in 2003, he never touched alcohol again.
The Bee Gees started releasing successful singles in the mid-1960s; however, they are most often associated with their disco successes from the 1970s. More than 220 million recordings have reportedly been sold by the band. According to CelebrityNetWorth.com, Gibb’s personal net worth is around $90 million.
According to a 2003 New York Times feature that examined the group’s finances in detail, the Gibb brothers earned $8 million annually (about $10.4 million in 2016 currency) from music publication revenue from the songs they wrote.
Gibb has been active as a producer and songwriter despite only releasing two solo albums throughout his career (along with other tracks bootlegged by fans, demos released on iTunes, and non-album singles). The 1980 album Guilty, which he co-produced with Barbra Streisand, is one of his most well-known works with other artists. Each and every track on the album was written by him, and he even appears on the cover.
In 2006, Barry and Linda Gibb purchased the Tennessee home of Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash, who had both died in 2003. According to The Tennessean from 2014, they spent $2.3 million on the mansion, which was constructed in 1968.
The Gibbs intended to renovate the house, and they were nearly finished when a fire broke out in April 2007. Then they made the decision to maintain the original foundations while constructing a new house.
The couple later sold the waterfront home to Lakehouse Holdings LLC in March 2014 for $2 million.
Since the 1970s, Barry and Lina have been permanent residents of Miami, where they own a property. They do, however, maintain a residence in the United Kingdom. According to the Daily Mail, they own a nine-bedroom mansion on a 90-acre plot of land in Beaconsfield, England.
When Gibb visited England in July 2013 to accept a lifetime achievement award, he was interviewed by the Daily Mail at his estate in Beaconsfield. One of the Bee Gees, Barry, is now the only original member still alive. Both members of the Gibb family have passed away; Maurice in 2003, at age 53, and Robin in 2012, at age 62.
Barry and his family, as well as all of their fans, were profoundly affected by Maurice’s and Robin’s tragic deaths in 2003 and 2013, respectively.
Even before their deaths, the Gibb family lost Andy Gibb, the youngest of the Gibb brothers, in 1988. Tragically, their father passed away very soon after. It was said that after Robin’s death, Barry fell into deep despair and worry. However, Gibb was reenergized by a solo tour of Australia, which was a huge success.
