Actors and directors have their own picks as well. Few are as ready to talk about them as Quentin Tarantino. He’s a cinephile who loves the experience of going to a film. He believes it creates lifelong memories better than TV can.

Quentin can occasionally be a harsh critic, even of his own films. He also loves shining a light on films he enjoyed. His personal list of favorites is primarily populated with Asian and American action films, with a few comedies thrown in for good measure. They’ve all affected his style of filmmaking. He loves to give the audience large epics with stunts and excitement galore.

However, there was one film that changed him forever. It made him want to bring a focus on characters into his sweeping stories. He loved it so much that he saw it multiple times during the single week that it ran. The problem was that almost no one else saw it. The movie’s star, Kevin Costner, and its director, Kevin Reynolds, eventually went on to become famous, but they were unknowns at the time. That convinced Warner Bros. it would fail, so they gave it a severely limited run. It made almost no money and was quietly forgotten by most.

Quentin thought it should have gotten more praise than it did. He thought the director would be the next Stanley Kubrick. Even if that didn’t happen, it helped launch the careers of its cast and crew. That alone deserves more appreciation.
