Mysteries
There are many mysteries that have never been answered, and people want answers. Many people go out in search of Big Foot all the time, sure that he exists. Many also go out searching for the Lochness Monster. The mysteries of the Bermuda Triangle also have some people stumped, while others are sure that they have the answers. Finally, the mystery of what happened to Amelia Earhart is a mystery, and there is a man who is planning an expedition to figure out what really happened.
Amelia Earhart
Amelia Earhart is a record-breaking pilot who is famous for her transcontinental flight. On July 2, 1937, her plane, the Electra, disappeared along with her navigator, Fred Noonan. Even since she lost contact, people have wondered what happened to her and her aircraft.
Theories
There are plenty of theories regarding what happened to Amelia on that day. She was on her way to becoming the first female aviator to circumnavigate the world, which made people believe that she would never try to disappear on her own. The United States Navy believes that her plane crashed into the Pacific, killing Amelia and Frank immediately. Some people believe that the pair was captured and executed by the Japanese. Some people believe that the plane was already found, but it was never announced to the public.
Robert Ballard
Robert Ballard is known for finding things that are considered lost. He was the man who located the remains of the Titanic, deep under the sea. He also found the USS Yorktown, which was lost at the Battle of Midway in 1942. In addition to his resume is finding President John F. Kennedy’s patrol boat in the Solomon Sea, and the German battleship Bismark. Now, he has a new project. The man who found the Titanic is hunting for Amelia Earhart’s plane.
Robert’s Theory
Robert believes in the Nikumaroro theory. This theory suggests that the Electra crashed into the coral reef on an inhabited island that is 1.3-miles wide. It is thought that Amelia made distress calls from the island, but they went unanswered. Skeletal remains have been said to have been found on the island but have since been lost. It was never confirmed if the remains belonged to either Amelia or Frank.
Robert’s Plan
Robert and his crew will be heading to the island where the remains were said to have been found. When they arrive, they are going to split up into two teams so that they can cover more ground. They are also going to bring bone sniffing dogs to the island to search for Amelia or Frank’s remains. He hopes that his land team will uncover something to let them know what happened on that fateful day.
Allison Fundis
Robert also brought a co-leader on the project named Allison Fundis. It is going to be her job to search for evidence of the plane on the seafloor. The seafloor is going to map the geography using imaging equipment that can distinguish hard and soft objects. According to a report in the Washington Post, the method that the team will use is more precise than regular sonar. Because the island contains volcanic made valleys and gullies, it isn’t going to be easy.
Robotic Vessels
Robotic vessels are going to be used. They will be outfitted with two cameras so that the crew can survey the seabed, and then watch the video feed. They are hoping to find human-made objects. And they can’t use a traditional sonar because they cannot tell the difference between a rock the size of an engine and an actual engine. The cameras will help the crew see what is actually under the water.
Previously Used Method
Robert and his team are using the robotic vessels because they have worked out in the past. These robotic vessels helped him to locate Roman Ships in the Black Sea. The Roman ships that he discovered were smaller than Amelia’s plane, so he is hopeful that if the plane is underwater, that they will find it.
August 2019
Robert plans to set out and explore in August 2019. We can only hope that he and his team find something so that we can finally get to the bottom of what happened to Amelia Earhart, Frank Noone, and their plane. This is one of the many mysteries of the world that we are waiting to uncover. Fortunately, Robert has the resources to get to the bottom of the mystery. If the two were actually captured by the Japanese, their airplane still exists somewhere. It is highly unlikely that the government has already found the plane and are hiding it. There is no reason to hide the truth. We can only wish Robert good luck and hope that he finally uncovers this decade’s long mystery.
