Movies are good for a lot of different things, but one of the best things they’re good for is titillating the audience! Since cinema became a thing over a century ago, movies have become better and better at giving viewers what they want. From Fifty Shades of Grey to 9-1/2 Weeks, join Facts Verse as we take a look at the sexiest movies of all time.
Fifty Shades of Grey
The first movie that we’ll be taking a look at on this list is a recent addition, and one that isn’t generally considered to be the best film. Critics were certainly divided on Fifty Shades of Grey when it was released to theaters just before Valentine’s Day in 2015. However, audiences seemed to agree that the film adaptation of the popular novel was titillating. Infamously, the Fifty Shades book series started out as Twilight fan-fiction before finding a life of it’s own as smut. Though most fans of the book series believe that the movies aren’t of as high of a quality, they’ve still got plenty of eye candy in the form of lead performers Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan. Fifty Shades of Grey stars Dakota as Anastasia Steele, who isn’t sure what to do when she finds herself falling in love with Jamie Dornan’s Christian Grey. Christian is rich, sadomasochistic, and classically attractive! The movie and it’s sequels are certainly dumb, but also hot.
For our second entry on this list, let’s take a look at a sexy movie that you don’t have to leave your brain at the door to enjoy. From RoboCop and Showgirls director Paul Verhoeven, Basic Instinct is a steamy thriller that took the world by storm when it was released in 1992. The murder mystery stars Michael Douglas and Sharon Stone, and their chemistry is off the charts! The hottest scene in the film would have to be the interrogation scene, where Sharon Stone gets things going in her favor by flashing her crotch.
Body of Evidence
Madonna is best known as a recording artist, but the pop idol has always dreamed of being as popular of an actress as she is a singer. Sadly, this dream has never become a reality for Madonna, despite numerous attempts. Madonna may not be the best actress, but her sex appeal certainly translates to the screen without much trouble. One great example of this would be Body of Evidence, which was one of the singer’s early attempts to find fame in Hollywood. Like Fifty Shades of Grey, this is another incredibly stupid movie with romantic chemistry that’s off the charts. None other than Willem Dafoe, who adds his own unique appeal to the mix, plays Madonna’s love interest in the film. The movie has justifiably been forgotten, but it’s still pretty titillating today!
Wild Things is a film that has become infamous for one thing, and that one thing is a threesome that occurs between characters played by Neve Campbell, Denise Richards, and Matt Dillon. Of course, it’s Neve and Denise that audiences were showing up to see when the film became a box-office hit. Audiences loved putting themselves in the shoes of Matt Dillon’s character as he was given the chance to experience the joys of being with Neve and Denise at the same time. Besides Neve, Denise, and Matt, the film also stars Kevin Bacon. At the time, the four were some of the hottest stars in Hollywood, and Wild Things still stands as one of the definitely sexy movies of the 1990s.
How about a little science fiction on this list? Any genre of film can be sexy, and 1995’s Species is generally considered the preeminent example when one is asked to point to a modern genre film that’s just as titillating as it is entertaining. The film stars model Natasha Henstridge as the form that an alien takes when it wants to destroy the world. The alien certainly knew what it was doing, as Natasha’s form proved to have a great deal of influence over both the other characters in the movie and cinema audiences. The best thing about the movie is the fact that Natasha is pretty much naked the whole time. As compared to some of the other films on this list, Species is pretty entertaining with or without the sex appeal. Besides Natasha, the movie features performances by Ben Kingsley and Forest Whitaker.
Anyone familiar with the story of Les Liaisons dangereuses knows that the French novel lends itself to some decidedly sexy adaptations. However, the majority of adaptations of the novel are period pieces, and period pieces don’t always have the easiest time titillating the general public. Hollywood had a stroke of genius in the 1990s when it decided to adapt Les Liaisons dangereuses for modern audiences using a cast of teenage heartthrobs. The film features Sarah Michelle Gellar, Reese Witherspoon, and Selma Blair, all of whom were fairly new additions to the Hollywood pantheon that were eager to prove themselves on the big screen.
Back on the subject of Madonna, Swept Away is another of the attempts that the recording artist made at becoming a star. Like the aforementioned Body of Evidence, it isn’t generally considered to be one of the best films. In fact, it’s considered to be one of the worst! However, that doesn’t mean that it’s not titillating. The film, which was released in 2001, was directed by Madonna’s then-husband. At the time, Madonna was married to British director Guy Ritchie, who had become known worldwide for his crime films Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch. Many people believed that Guy was destined to be Hollywood’s next big thing, but the sour reception towards Swept Away put a stop to that. The film may be maligned, but modern audiences can still get a lot out of the relationship between Madonna and her male costar. The movie was based on a 1970s Italian feature, so you know that it’s going to be sexy!
The Blue Lagoon
Heading all the way back to the early 1980s, The Blue Lagoon was a controversial hit that audiences couldn’t help but be turned on by. The film was controversial due to the fact that it depicted teenage lovers, one of whom was played by actual teenager Brooke Shields. Even as a teenager, Brooke was no stranger to acting sexy on film. The actress got her start playing a child prostitute in Louis Malle’s infamous Pretty Baby. A body double was used for the young actress’s nude scenes in The Blue Lagoon, but that didn’t make the film any less controversial. Despite the controversy, and the hatred from the critics, audiences flocked to see the picture in droves. The movie still does a good job of turning audiences on today. Brooke’s love interest in the film is played by Christopher Atkins.
Before The Matrix was released around the turn of the millennium, the Wachowskis broke onto the scene with one of the sexiest thrillers of the 1990s. Bound was released in 1996, and it stars Jennifer Tilly and Gina Gershon as a pair of women that fall in love and decide to kill the mafia-man husband of Jennifer Tilly’s character. The movie is as stylish and fun as it is sexy, and should make for some fun viewing!
Like Bound, Boogie Nights is another sexy movie that served as a Hollywood calling card upon it’s release. Whereas Bound opened up the doors for the Wachowskis, Boogie Nights was the movie that put writer/director Paul Thomas Anderson on the map. Boogie Nights is a great example of a film that doesn’t sacrifice quality in order to titillate the audiences. The movie is widely considered to be one of the best of the 1990s, and the fact that it can still manage to turn audiences on is only a bonus! The film stars Mark Wahlberg as porn star Dirk Diggler. During the picture, he gets the chance to bed both Julianne Moore and Heather Graham.
Anyone that wants a chance to see Demi Moore in her prime should check out Striptease right away. The film features Demi as a stripper, and she does an excellent job! This is another movie that doesn’t have the best reputation outside of Demi’s sexy performance. It also features Burt Reynolds.
Eyes Wide Shut
Stanley Kubrick’s last movie was also his sexiest. In fact, 1999’s Eyes Wide Shut was so sexy that it was censored before it could be granted a wide release. The main culprit for the movie’s censorship would have to be the orgy scene that shows up right in the middle. Upon release, black bars were inserted to cover some of the orgy participants’ nudity. Another hot aspect of the film is the on-screen relationship between stars Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman, who were an item in real life. Eyes Wide Shut was released after Stanley Kubrick’s death, as he died shortly after filming ended.
There are few real-life stories quite as enthralling as that of porn star Linda Lovelace. Thankfully, the porn star’s story has been brought to the screen with a performance by the beautiful Amanda Seyfriend! Anyone that is curious to see how Amanda steps into the shoes of Linda should check the movie out right away. Like Boogie Nights, this is another behind-the-scenes look at the porn industry that’s just as fun and entertaining to watch as it is titillating to it’s audience.
Finally, let’s take a look at the classic erotic drama 9-1/2 Weeks. 9-1/2 Weeks was directed by Adrian Lyne and released in 1986. Upon it’s release, the film became a monumental success due to the steamy on-screen relationship between stars Mickey Rourke and Kim Basinger.
Any of the aforementioned films would make a perfect pick for someone that’s look for some titillating at-home viewing! Now it’s time to hear from you: did you know that Madonna has starred in several erotic Hollywood films, and that Stanley Kubrick’s final movie had to be edited before it’s release because it was too sexy?
