Many women hope to win the Miss America Pageant for the title that they hold for the year, and for their names to be added to Miss America history. They also win a prize package. The winner gets a $50,000 scholarship that can open up doors to their education. During their reigning years, they are also given a six-figure salary. There are plenty of appearances involved with being Miss America, and the woman who wins the crown is generously compensated.
In June 2019, the 2019 Miss Virginia was crowned. Her name is Camille Schrier, and she is much different than the women who have held the crown in the past. Camille is a scholar. She holds dual degrees in Biochemistry and Systems Biology from Virginia Tech. It was these degrees that helped her to win the crown.
Camille is gorgeous, as are all of the women who competed in the 2019 Miss Virginia pageant. She wowed the judges in the swimsuit competition, the evening gown competition, and the interview portion of the competition. It was the talent part of the competition that put Camille over the top. While the other competitors were hoping to sing or dance their way to victory, Camille had something different in mind. Her idea was a gamble. Her talent could have blown the competition for her, or it could have helped her win the crown. She wasn’t sure what would happen, but she decided to take the risk. Fortunately, her idea paid off.

Camille did what is known as the “Elephant Toothpaste” reaction. She mixed a number of chemicals that resulted in an explosion of blue and orange foam. When she was done, the judges and the audience were incredibly impressed. It may not be your typical talent during a beauty pageant, but Camille pulled it off, and it was sensational.
Gretchen Carlson is the Chair of the Board of Trustees for the Miss America Pageant. After Camille won the crown, she made a statement where she said, “We are no longer a pageant. Miss America will represent a new generation of female leaders focused on scholarship, social impact, talent, and empowerment. We’re experiencing a cultural revolution in our country with women finding the courage to stand up and have their voices heard on many issues. Miss America is proud to evolve as an organization and join this empowerment movement.”
Miss America 2.0
With Camille competing for the Miss America 2019 crown, many people are calling it Miss America 2.0. The stakes have been raised, and the contestants from other states should know that things are changing in the pageant. If they are hoping to win the crown, they will need to step it up a bit.
