Peta’s Complicated Relationship With Her Famous Father

Peta Gibb is the late English-musician Andy Gibb’s one and only daughter. She was born on January 25, 1978 in the United States. Her mother, as we already mentioned, was Kim Reeder, but Andy had already separated from her before Peta was born and moved on to date actress Victoria Principal.

Peta Gibb grew up without much contact with her famous father, who struggled with drug addiction and depression. She only met him a few times in her life, mostly during his visits to Australia. In one interview, Peta stated that for the longest time, she only knew her dad as a voice on the other end of the phone line. She further said that she felt like an outsider in his world and that Andy was more like a distant uncle than a dad. She also faced bullying at school because of her surname and had to deal with rumors about her father’s affairs and health problems.

Peta Gibb inherited her father’s musical talent and learned to play guitar and piano. She also developed a passion for photography and became a professional photographer. She eventually married a man by the name of Matt Weber, a musician and producer, and had two children with him: Flynn, who was born in 2004, and Jemma, who was born in 2007. She has since said that becoming a mother made her realize how much she missed having a father figure in her life.

Peta Gibb reconnected with her father’s side of the family in 2017, when she joined her cousins Samantha, Spencer and Stephen, the children of her uncle Barry Gibb, to record an album together. The album was called The Gibb Collective: Please Don’t Turn Out The Lights and featured covers of classic Bee Gees songs as well as a few original compositions. Peta Gibb said that working on the album helped her heal some of the wounds from her past and feel closer to her father’s legacy.

Peta Gibb has also spoken publicly about her father’s death in 1988, when he suffered a heart attack at age 30 after years of substance abuse. She said that she was devastated by the news and felt angry at him for leaving her behind.

Peta Gibb has said that despite their complicated relationship, she loved her father very much and wished he could have been part of her life more. She has said that she forgave him for his mistakes and hoped he found peace in heaven. She also said that she was proud of his achievements as a singer-songwriter and felt honored to share his name.
