#1 What Is Colorblindness?
Color blindness occurs when your eyes and your brain cannot work together to perceive different colors. There is only 8 percent of men and 0.5 percent of women around the world who have the exact same type of color deficiency. According to the National Eye Institute, there are 3 types of color blindness. The most common type is red-green color blindness. People who suffer from this type have no function or a limited function of their red cone or green cone photopigments. The blue-yellow color blindness is rarer than the red-green, however, it is still relatively common. The last type of color blindness is complete color blindness, also known as monochromacy. A person with this type won’t be able to distinguish colors at all. People who suffer from complete color blindness also won’t be able to see as clear as most people.
If you suspect that you are colorblind, your eye doctor can perform the Ishihara Color Test or the Cambridge Color Test to determine if you have a visual color deficiency and which type it is that you are suffering from. If you don’t want to go through the hassle of making an appointment and going to the eye doctor to see if you are colorblind, you can take the test below. Unfortunately, there is no treatment for colorblindness. If you suspect that you are colorblind, you may still want to know.
If you are able to see all of the words in the test photos below, your color vision is perfect. If you struggle to see certain words, you may have a slight deficiency. Take the test and see how you do. Only people with perfect color vision can read these 8 words.
#2 Blues
This is one of the easiest photos on this test. It is basically a warm-up to get you going and so that you understand exactly how the test works. If you are color blind, you wouldn’t be able to see anything in this photo except for a blue square. People who are color blind, struggle to see certain colors. If you are blind to the color blue, you won’t be able to see the word in this photo. If you have perfect color vision, you would know that inside the blue box is the word, “TREE.”
#3 Green and Yellow
The words in this photo are very difficult to see. If you are going to be able to read the word, you need to have perfect color vision and you need to focus very hard. After staring at the photo long enough, you might be able to see the word, “EAT.” If you cannot see the word, don’t feel bad. This one is tough. If you could read the word, good for you!
#4 Pinks and Purples
This color vision photo is much easier to see than the previous one. If you have good color vision, you should be able to see the word, “BOOT” in the middle. If you have poor color vision, you might only be able to see some light pink in the middle of the photo but not the actual word. If you are color blind, you might not be able to see the word or the color.
#5 Shades of Pink
This color vision photo is relatively easy to see. If you have perfect color vision, you should be able to see the word, “SWEET” clearly. If you don’t, you might just notice that there are two shades of pink in the picture. If you are color blind, you likely won’t see anything but a pink square. Focus is important with this one if you are going to see the word.
#6 Shades of Blue
This color vision test is difficult for some people. If you have perfect color vision, you would be able to read the word, “PARK” in the middle of the blue square. If your color vision isn’t completely perfect, you may notice that there is a light pink inside the square. People who are completely color blind to blues won’t see anything at all.
#7 Orange- The Most Difficult Of All the Tests
Of all the color vision photos on this list, this one is, by far, the most difficult. When many people look at the picture, they see a big, orange square. Even if you focus as hard as you can, you may still not be able to see the word. Inside the square is the word, “LOVE.” If you are going to be able to see this word, you are going to need to have perfect color vision. If you can’t see it, don’t worry too much. Most people can’t.
#8 Purples
This color vision photo is one of the more difficult ones. It may not be as hard as the previous photo, however, it can be difficult to make the word out. In the middle of the square is the word, “HAT.” People who don’t have perfect color vision may be able to see the word if they focus hard enough and long enough. If you are colorblind to the color purple, you won’t be able to see anything.
#9 The Easiest Photo In the Test
Of all the photos on this test, this is the easiest to make out. Even people who are colorblind are able to read the word, “BEAD.” This photo doesn’t even require much focus and concentration.
