A Startling Discovery
In 1995, scientists made a puzzling discovery near the island of Amami-Oshima in Japan. The waters are rich in coral, and the area around the subtropical island is home to marine life. The scientists were there to investigate marine life, but they found something even more interesting. What they found under the water didn’t appear to be natural. The Discovery
The team found several large circles, etched in the sand. They didn’t know who or what created them. The circles resembled giant sunflowers, and they were over 6-feet across and consisted of concentric rings. The outer rings had petal-like ridges, and the inner circles had a web of flattened arteries. According to National Geographic, the circles were dubbed “mystery circles.” They left scientists baffled. They had no idea why they were in the water and how they got there. Were they a message to humanity, or did they have a conscious intent?
The Ocean
The oceans are very vast. They make up over 70 percent of the surface of the planet, and only about 1/10 of the total area has been explored. This is why it isn’t surprising when things are on the ocean floor. This is why sailors have been speculating about what lies under the ocean for centuries. Many wonder if mermaids and giant sea creatures reside in areas that remain unexplored. We have no idea what lies beneath much of the ocean’s waters.
Lost Civilizations and Alien Spacecrafts
Plenty of discoveries are in the oceans, including lost civilizations. One such ruin was discovered in the mid-’80s, near the coast of Japan. It is Japan’s Atlantis, and it includes several manmade structures, pyramids, stairs, and sculptured faces. In 2011, a research team called the Ocean X found what appeared to be a saucer-shaped relic under the Baltic Sea. It is popular as the Baltic Sea Anomaly, and it is about 200-feet thick. Nobody knows where it came from.
Crop Circles
The discovery in Japan in 1995 was a paranormal phenomenon, crop circles. These mysterious geometric formations often appear overnight in the fields of cereal crops. Paranormal investigators have been studying the crop circles for years, thinking that they may be the work of aliens. The first instance was documented in 1966. A farmer named George Pedley claimed to have seen a UFO coming from the marsh in Tully, Australia. He claims that the UFO flattened circles of reed, creating a crop circle. During the ’70s and ’80s, crop circles began to appear regularly in England. During the ’90s, they started appearing in the United States, Canada, Japan, and the former Soviet Union. Today, there are over 10,000 accounts of crop circles all over the world.
Intricate
May experts believe that it would be impossible for a human to create these circles themselves because they are so vast and intricate. Some contained thousands of components, including characters and mathematical symbols. The patterns found at Barbury Castle disproved the theory that they were created by lightning. Due to the complexity of the patterns, whoever designed them had to be incredibly intelligent. In 1991, two English pranksters named Doug Bower and Dave Chorley claimed that they created many of the crop circles in England using a plank and a rope. Most people didn’t believe them.
Theories
There are plenty of theories related to crop circles. Some believe that they are messages from alien visitors. Others believe that they are invisible paths of power that cross the globe to connect religious shrines and other spiritual landmarks. Dr. Horace Drew spent over 20 years looking for UFOs after claiming to have seen a UFO when he was a child. He claims to be able to decipher the advanced binary codes. He says that one read, “Much pain but still time. Believe. There is good out there.” Another reads, “Beware the bearers of false gifts and their broken promises.” He believes that the aliens are just trying to say, “hello.” He also believes that the crop circles are geographical markers to help time travelers.
What Is Going On In Japan?
When the crop circles were discovered under the water in Japan, people started to wonder if they were somehow connected to the crop circles found in England. Is there an extraterrestrial connection? For many years, scientists were inspecting the underwater crop circles, trying to find what caused them, and what they could mean.

In 2011 the cause of the mysterious circles was finally identified. Unfortunately for conspiracy theorists, aliens weren’t involved. It was actually a newly identified species of pufferfish who created the underwater crop circles. The fish are called the white-spotted pufferfish.
The Circles
Pufferfish can blow themselves up to 10 times their original size. When they are on the ocean floor, they puff up, which can create the circles found in Japan. Most people have accepted this explanation; however, there are still conspiracy theorists out there who believe that the pufferfish was blamed so that the leaders of the world don’t have to admit the truth.
