Strangest World Records You Must Know About

Every single one of the strangest world records can be found in The Guinness Book of World Records. This is where people who are attempting unimaginable feats can submit proof. They have outdone everyone else at some crazy attempt. From the longest hair to the fastest rope-jumper, there are countless impressive feats to ogle. But do you know the history behind humanity’s obsession with breaking world records?

It all started with a man named Sir Hugh Beaver. He was the managing director of Guinness Brewery, which is still popular today. In the early 1950s, Sir Hugh Beaver went to a shooting party with some friends in County Wexford. While there, someone mentioned what he thought to be the fastest game bird in the entirety of Europe. However, another man had a different opinion. Soon, everyone at the shooting party was arguing which game bird was the fastest.

Their hunt momentarily forgotten, the men quickly tried to settle their dispute by combing through reference books. Astonishingly, however, they weren’t able to find the answer. Disappointed, they all went home. But Sir Hugh Beaver would never forget that moment. In his mind, there was no reason why there shouldn’t be a record of the information.

The Guinness Book of World Records

In 1954, Sir Hugh Beaver decided to take action. He collaborated with twins Norris and Rob McWhirter, with whom he began to collect and record all sorts of data. All three men worked tirelessly on researching and writing the first copy of The Guinness Book of World Records.

The first edition of The Guinness Book of World Records was published in 1955, and it was an immediate hit. It continues to retain its popularity every year thereafter, and it remains a popular gift for children and adults alike.

While we don’t have time to look at every single crazy world record that is charted in The Guinness Book of World Records, in today’s video, we’re going to look at some records so wild, you’ll have a difficult time believing they’re true! Make sure you stick around until the very end, where we’ll reveal the man who took record-breaking to a whole new level!

The Bed of Nails Sandwich

On October 23, 2019, a group of men in India broke the record. It is for the most people in a bed of nails sandwich. Vispy Kharadi, a martial artist, led eight other men in the effort. Vispy Kharadi laid on the bottom. He was sandwiched in between two beds of nails, as were all eight other men on top of him. While the feat may look incredibly dangerous, it is a simple matter of weight distribution. If there’re enough nails on the wooden block, any person who lays on top of them will not be harmed.

When constructing a bed of nails sandwich, the real trick is dealing with the weight of every person on top of you. Vispy Kharadi admitted that the weight of eight other men was difficult to bear, but he and his team managed to pull it off, earning them the world record!

Largest Continuous Concrete Pour

On January 7th, 2019, Navayuga Engineering Company Limited, also known as the NECL, set to work creating a flood discharge capacity dam in Andhra Pradesh, a state in south-eastern India. It was a massive construction effort, and the NECL decided they may as well break some records along the way. Not only did they earn the record for the largest continuous concrete pour, but they also broke the record for the most concrete poured in 24 hours! While these world records may not have the shock value of being sandwiched between a bed of nails, they’re still worth being proud of.

World’s Longest Nails

While this title has been claimed by several different people over the decades, the woman who currently holds the record for the World’s Longest Nails is Chris “The Dutchess” Walton. These nails are certainly a fashion statement! These curly wonders measure a total of 10 feet and 2 inches on her left hand, and 9 feet and 7 inches on her right. She has been growing these beauties for a total of 18 years. She even spends time painting them. Click the like button if you’re impressed with The Dutchess’ nails!

World’s Tallest Mohawk

The world’s tallest mohawk rests atop the head of Kazuhiro Watanabe. Watanabe is a Japanese fashion designer whose impressive hairdo is 3 feet and 8.6 inches tall. His style can be described as avant-garde with a bit of punk mixed in, and he is certainly committed to his look! We can’t help but wonder, however, how on earth he manages to get through doorways.

Covered in Bees

While many people are terrified of insects with stingers, She Ping is absolutely fearless when it comes to bugs of any kind. He covered almost his entire body in bees, whose weight totaled 33.1 kilograms, which is almost 73 pounds! It’s estimated that weight equals approximately 331,000 bees. Of course, being a beekeeper, She Ping knew all about how to behave around the little bugs so as to not get stung. Still, that takes some serious guts! The next time you’re scared when a bee lands on you, just remember that She Ping stood still even though he was covered in over 300,000 of them!

The World’s Shortest Man and Woman

The world record for the shortest man is held by Chandra Bahadur Dangi, who measured just 54.6 centimeters tall, or about 1 foot and 9 inches. After being awarded the record, Chandra was excited to travel around the world. He also reported that he wanted to use his newfound fame to gain popularity for his home country, Nepal. Sadly, he died on September 3rd, 2015, when he was 75 years old.

Jyoti Amge, meanwhile, is the shortest living woman in the world. She hails from Nagpur, India, and stands just over 2 feet tall. Today, she works as an actress and has appeared in the film Body Shock, as well as the hit television series American Horror Story. In 2012, Jyoti Amge and Chandra Bahadur Dangi met one another to pose for a photo, which was used in the 57th edition of The Guinness Book of World Records.

Frozen in Snow

While the act of being sandwiched between a bed of nails may seem incredibly dangerous, Oleksiy Gutsulyak proved to be an even greater daredevil on January 25th, 2013, when he broke the record for the longest time spent in direct full body contact in snow. He lasted a total of 1 hour and eight seconds, beating the previous record-holder Jin Songhao, who lasted 46 minutes and 8 seconds during his attempt.

Farthest Eyeball Pop

This one will make your own eyeballs pop! Kim Goodman, who lives in America, was hit on the head by a hockey mask one day. Her eyes bulged out of their sockets as a result, and she discovered a hidden talent. She could pop her eyes farther than anyone else in the world! On November 2nd, 2007, in Istanbul, Turkey, an optometrist used a special device, called a proptometer, to measure the distance of her pop. The optometrist concluded that Kim Goodman could pop her eyes 12 millimeters from their sockets. While that may sound like a minute distance, it certainly looks crazy!

The Most Expensive Dessert

The Frrrozen Haute Chocolate is probably the most decadent experience on earth. The Serendipity-3 restaurant, located in New York, revealed the world’s most expensive dessert. This delicious treat is made with 14 different cocoas, all of which are extremely rare and expensive. It is served with shavings of a chocolate truffle, made from an extremely rare mushroom and coated in expensive chocolate. The truffle alone costs $2,500 a pound! But that’s not all. It is also topped with edible, 24-carat gold, and served in a crystal goblet. In total, this insane dessert costs $25,000!

The World’s Strongest Man

Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson, who played the role of Gregor “The Mountain” Clegane in the hit HBO television series Game of Thrones, is certainly a sight to behold. But those muscles aren’t just for show! In 2018, he was deemed the World’s Strongest Man when he accomplished a deadlift of 1,104 pounds in his home country of Iceland.

The Ultimate Record-Breaker

of the people on this list have set and broken some incredible records, but nobody comes close to the legendary Ashrita Furman. Born September 16th, 1954, this determined man has set over 600 world records, of which he still holds 226. As a result, he holds the world record for the most world records! Some of the crazy things he’s accomplished to earn his title include slicing the most watermelons on his stomach in a minute, running the fastest time while balancing a milk bottle on his head, and doing the most sit-ups in an hour! It seems this man will stop at nothing to set and break records all over the world. Truly, Ashrita Furman is a legend amongst legends.
