For most people, their wedding day is the most important day of their lives. Because of this, people spend thousands of dollars on their weddings. Your wedding day is the day that you stand up in front of your family and friends and promise to spend the rest of your life with another person. Most people do everything they can to make their day perfect and all about each other. When Katie Hild got married, she had something different in mind. She wanted her ceremony to be about more than her husband-to-be. She wanted to make her wedding day about an unexpected person as well.
Katie’s Soon-To-Be Blended Family
Katie was planning to marry a man named Jeremy who had a son named Landon from a previous marriage. Jeremy and his ex-wife, Casey, didn’t get along very well. Katie and Casey didn’t get along either. According to Katie, when she and Jeremy first started dating, she and Casey hated each other. Between the stories, rumors, and the judgments, the two women didn’t see eye to eye. Because of the animosity between the two, they struggled everyday to co-parent their son. Like Jeremy, Casey was also in a relationship. She was with a man named Tyler. Although both parents were in happy relationships, they couldn’t manage to get along.
Katie The Mediator
Katie hated that fact that Jeremy and Casey didn’t get along. She knew that if Landon was going to be happy, all of the adults needed to be on the same page. She decided that the best way to mend fences between Jeremy and Casey was to become friends with Casey. Little by little, the two women became close. It wasn’t long before the women were best friends. Soon after, Jeremy and Tyler became close. When the adults were finally getting along, Landon benefited from the happy co-parent environment that they created.
Inviting the Ex
By the time Katie and Jeremy were sending out their wedding invitations, the two couples were getting along great. Therefore, Casey and Tyler were on the guest list. Some people told Katie that it was strange that she was inviting Jeremy’s ex-wife to the wedding. She didn’t let this bother her because these people didn’t understand the relationship that the two couples had. Regardless of what people were saying, Casey and Josh were at the top of the guest list.
The Bracelet
Before the wedding, Katie went out and bought all of her bridesmaids matching bracelets to thank them for their friendship and for being in her wedding party. She also bought a bracelet for Casey.
Katie’s Secret Plan
Katie had a plan to include her future step son and his mother in her wedding. She said, “Co-parenting means sharing the duties of a child. I didn’t tell anyone what I was doing. Not even Jeremy.” Katie did a great job of keeping her plan a secret because what she did during the ceremony shocked everyone. When bride sees her husband’s ex at her wedding, she stops everything and asks her to stand.
The Vows
Before Katie and Jeremy said their vows, she wanted to say something to Casey. She asked Katie to stand up and she said, “First, I want to thank you for accepting me as your friend and allowing me to be a part of Landon’s life. I promise to be an amazing mother to your son. I will guide, teach, and love him every single day.” After she finished, her guests were struggling to hold their tears back but she wasn’t done. Next, she spoke directly to Landon. She said, “Landon, I will love you more than you will ever know. I am so happy that I now officially get to be your bonus Mommy.”
Casey’s Reaction
Casey was completely shocked by Katie’s kindness. She said that Katie’s actions were completely selfless. She took a day that should have been all about her and made herself and Landon a part of it. When Katie finished her speech, Casey says that she couldn’t hold back the tears.

Before Katie and Jeremy left for their honeymoon, Katie shared photos of her wedding online as well as a snippet of video. She never expected the video to get the attention that it received. People were sharing the video and quickly it went viral. Most of the comments were praising Katie for the amazing gift that she have to Landon.
A Happy Blended Family
Today, Katie, Jeremy, Casey, and Tyler are still getting along. They get along great and they often do things with Tyler all together like a family. They even had their photo taken with Santa together. It’s a shame that all blended families cannot get along this well.
